AWARD FOR INNOVATION IN DAIRY RESEARCH
Midwest ADSA

Purpose:

To promote and reward original and innovative ideas that are scientifically based and that have relevance to the dairy industry.

Nature of the Award:

Land O'Lakes Feed will provide a $500 award for an abstract detailing either applied or basic research. A check will be provided to the authors' home institution as a grant for their use. The award winner will be announced and recognized with a plaque during the Midwest ADSA Annual Meeting.

Eligibility:

  1. Abstracts must be related to dairy cattle or dairy products. Comparative work among species that includes dairy cows is eligible. Abstracts involving experimental models using animals other than dairy cattle are eligible if the work is directly relevant to the dairy industry.
  2. At least one abstract author must be an ADSA member in good standing.
  3. Institutions or organizations are not limited in the number of abstracts submitted for consideration. Abstracts may come from any department or organization.
  4. Abstracts found unacceptable as described in the ADSA "Quality Standards for Abstracts" will not be considered.
  5. Abstracts may also be ruled unacceptable if they:
    1. Contain grammatical errors and/or meaningless statements; such as, "The results will be presented."
    2. Contain typing errors.
    3. Fail to comply with submission requirements.
  6. All abstracts must be submitted on or before October 25, 2006.
  7. Abstracts must be accepted for presentation at the Midwest ASAS/ADSA annual meeting, and the work must actually be presented in oral or poster format at that meeting.

Nomination Procedure:

Abstracts must be submitted as indicated in the call for abstracts. When submitting the abstract, mark YES to Consider this abstract for the Dairy Innovation Award

Selection Criteria:
  1. Degree that the reported work:
    1. Creates an opportunity previously unavailable to advance the dairy industry by solving a problem.
    2. Addresses a previously unrecognized issue important to the dairy industry.
  2. Degree that the scientific process used:
    1. Contributes knowledge previously unavailable in biology or education.
    2. Employs an untried approach that effectively addresses a conceptual problem.
  3. Soundness of approach.
  4. Relevance of work to the dairy industry.
