Dear ASAS Members:

We are excited to once again call for abstracts for the 1998 Midwest Section ADSA-ASAS meeting to be held at the Convention Center in Des Moines March 16-18, 1998. Your abstract may be submitted electronically this year using the ASAS headquarters Web site or by disk as we did last year. All abstracts must be postmarked by November 1, 1997.

We have made available very detailed directions for completing a Web site or a disk submission. It is essential that you read the instructions carefully since utilization of the we site is a "new adventure" for us that will result in hours of saved time for our sections. Five copies of the printed abstract must be mailed as follows: 3 to the ASAS office with the disk (if using this method of submission) or without (if using the web site) and 2 to me. No E-Mail submissions or "blue box" forms will be accepted.

Your abstract should be the report of original research not published previously. Units of measure should only be abbreviated if they follow numerals. Following the guidelines of the Journals, all weight and measures must be in metric units and temperatures on the Celsius scale. Tabular data may be included in the abstract. Acceptance will be made by the appropriate program committee and withdrawal after acceptance is discouraged. However, if withdrawal becomes necessary, please notify me at once so that your abstract can be deleted from the Journal supplement you selected. All abstracts represent your work and are published in the supplement of either the Journal of Animal Science or Journal of Dairy Science and hence become public knowledge.

The complete program including abstracts will be available on the Internet prior to the meetings, and a hard copy will be mailed to you in February. Only in case of rejection or correctable problems will the author be contacted. However, abstracts representing competitive undergraduate or graduate papers may not be revised and resubmitted as competitive papers.

Only one nomination for graduate and undergraduate competition papers may be submitted by the departmental administrators, even if the institution has both an Animal Science and a Dairy Science Department.

Your officers and directors look forward to your participation at a strong Midwest meeting.

Sincerely,

Gretchen Myers Hill Secretary-Treasurer
